I am very proud to say he comes from South Africa. His sire an imported stallion Shams El Farin (you can look at his breeding on www.allbreedpedigree.com, Asil as far as I can assess) his dam a locally bred mare Gaillardia Mo-Kimash. Her lines are very much the star lines in many South African horses, not usually recognized by the rest of the world (Olford, Vlinkfontein and Timarie).
If I have to guess, the brilliance of this horse lies in his dam's lines. From the information available, none of the sire's other foals have excelled. Whereas just about every "winning" horse in South Africa has some of her lines in its breeding. The lines are known to be hot, forward and strong with great stamina.
Charlandre el Shariff was carefully conditioned for the export market by a local trainer for a number of years before he was finally shipped. At the age of 6 - 7 he completed in excess of 1000km, all at slow steady speeds, never racing.
